Murakami's Latest Novel Goes On Sale
The City and its Uncertain Walls is now available in English.
It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here!
Sorry, but I’m quite excited about the launch of Haruki Murakami’s latest novel. In fact, my copy just arrived on my Kindle a few minutes ago!
Fans around the English-speaking world have been waiting a long time for this and many of them got their copies at midnight, when it was first released. There aren’t many authors who inspire such excitement, but Murakami has legions of fans around the world.
A few lucky ones got ARCs weeks ago and of course those who read Japanese well enough were reading it last year. The book has also been released in a handful of other languages already. I wonder why it took so long to put together the English version…
The reviews are mixed but that’s normal and I remain optimistic that this will be another excellent book from one of the world’s greatest novelists. I’ll post my thoughts on it when I’ve finished reading. That probably won’t be in the next few days, though, because I like taking my time with a good book. I have no interest in rushing through it just to churn out a quick review.
My thoughts so far only extend to the covers:
I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the UK one (right) but honestly I think they’re both great. They seem to capture what the book is about and they do so in a charming way. In fact, I actually prefer the UK one.
